Where The Money Goes
Thank you to all who attended the Cornwall Christmas Fair 2022 at The Eden Project. Your generous donations broke records raising over £74,000 for Cornwall Community Foundation (CCF), smashing fundraising records since the event began 30 years ago.
The £74,000 raised by the Cornwall Christmas Fair 2022 was distributed to various organisations via CCF.
Young & Talented Cornwall - £20,000
Young & Talented Cornwall (Y&TC) received £20,000 from The Christmas Fair. The Fund, headed by Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall Colonel Edward Bolitho OBE, strives to help young individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding talent in a particular field such as sport, the arts, science, voluntary service, and enterprise but are struggling to achieve because of hardship or disability.
Matthew Ryall, Cornish pool player and Y&TC grant recipient commented, “Competing in national and international tournaments is vital for my growth as a pool player. However, the extensive travel involved can be a massive financial burden. Thanks to the grants from Young and Talented Cornwall, I've been able to compete without the constant worry of financial pressure, and that's made a world of difference to me. Their support even allowed me to participate in the European Championships, which wouldn't have been possible otherwise.”
St Petroc's - £10,000
St Petrocs, work to end street homelessness in Cornwall by providing accommodation, support and advice to people experiencing homelessness. They launched their Vocational Development programme in 2021 which works to address root causes of homelessness and be a sustainable approach to ending homelessness in Cornwall for those who are stuck in a cycle. This programme is available to their current residents to find their potential through training and ultimately employment.
Wild Young Parents - £10,000
WILD Young Parents, based in Redruth, are a charity who provide a whole-family service for young mums, dads, and their children; working with families to meet their individual needs and create a positive start to family life. WILD help young parents and their children who experience high rates of complex vulnerabilities and disadvantage, including long-term poverty, perinatal injury and illness, mental ill health, child abuse and mortality, violence and conflict, and involvement with criminal justice.
Cornwall's Foodbanks - £28,500
£28,500 from the 2022 Cornwall Christmas Fair was equally distributed to Cornwall’s 19 foodbanks, supporting individuals and families experiencing food poverty. One of the Foodbanks to received funding was Wadebridge Foodbank & Storehouse who provide emergency food, furniture, crisis grants, support and signposting to local people in crisis need. During the last year, they have fed equivalent to 4,565 people in crisis and provided an average of 2,200 meals per week. Since they opened their doors in 2009 they have fed over 39,000 people.
Jacqui White MBE, Project Manager at Wadebridge Foodbank and Storehouse says, “We’ve been able to access Cornwall Community Foundation’s funding over the years and it has always been an absolutely amazing thing for us to help the people coming into the Foodbank in need.”
